The current methodology of determining housing cost by census data has significant limitations in efforts to ascertain current rental housing costs in specific areas. These limitations impair the ability of local governments to effectively plan for diverse and affordable housing in transit locations. This report explores methodologies for tracking current market rents in the region, particularly near transit locations, and makes recommendations for the use of web scraping aw the basis for a new collaborative rental housing data platform.
